Animal Wellness Center of Athens (AWC Athens) is veterinary, small animal practice conveniently located just off Atlanta Highway in Athens, GA. The co-founders for the practice are veterinarians, Dr. Angela Dodd and Dr. Lisa Stacy, both graduates of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. The doctors have spent more than a decade in Athens dedicating their lives to helping animals live the long, happy and healthy lives that they deserve. In 2017, Drs. Dodd and Stacy weclomed veterinarian Dr. Sarah Cleary to the AWC practice.
The doctors at AWC are fully committed to enhancing their patients’ lives through excellence in preventive medicine, diagnostics, laser surgery, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, advanced dentistry, internal medicine, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, emergency treatment, digital radiography, and senior pet care. AWC of Athens offers animal behavioral counseling and an extensive supply of traditional and holistic medications, supplements, and products to enhance the care and well being of companion animals. In addition to exemplary medical and behavioral services, AWC will provide boarding in warm, comfortable cages with indoor runs for dogs and spacious condos for boarding cats and certain exotic species. Both doctors are also certified by the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture to write health certificates for patients to travel within the US and abroad.

Meet Dr. Angela Dodd
An Athens, GA native, Angela Dodd, DVM and AWC owner, provides Veterinary Care for companion animals, as well as Wellness Services including Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Dodd’s years of experience and love of animals shows through as she treats every animal under her care as if they were her own. Dr. Dodd enjoyed working with Dr. Stacy so much that they founded Animal Wellness Center of Athens in 2015.
Meet Dr. Lisa Stacy
Lisa Stacy, DVM and AWC owner, met Dr. Dodd at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, and they have been working together for more than a decade. Dr. Stacy provides Veterinary Care for patients with an emphasis on general surgery. Dr. Stacy’s years of experience with small animal veterinary medicine gives her clients the confidence and assurance of knowing their pets are in experienced, loving hands.
Meet Dr. Sarah Cleary
Sarah Cleary, DVM is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine with an emphasis on internal medicine and surgery for dogs and cats. Sarah’s hometown is Sugar Hill, Georgia and she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of North Georgia. She and her husband, James, have made Athens their home since the summer of 2013. They currently have three furkids: two cats, Oliver and Roo, and a dog named Yogi. In her spare time Sarah enjoys hiking, gardening, reading, movies and Braves baseball.
Angela Dodd, DVM, Lisa Stacy, DVM, and Sarah Cleary, DVM each hold current licenses to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Georgia and are members in good standing of the AVMA and GVMA.

Meet Rachel Lee Stadler
Rachel moved to Athens from Virginia in 2010 with her horse and the ambition to attend University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine to become a large animal veterinarian. Currently she is completing prerequisites for vet school at UGA. When she’s not in class or at work she’s usually at the barn or out with friends. Rachel loves and treats every animal she comes in contact with as if they were her own. She has been working with Dr. Dodd and Dr. Stacy since 2014.
Meet Laurè Sweet, RVT
Laurè was born and raised in Georgia, spending most of her life in the small town of Maysville. She graduated from Athens Technical College in 2009 with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. Laurè enjoys spending time with family and friends in her free time. She is owned by a dog, Mushu, and a cat, Frog. She finds joy and happiness in helping animals that cannot help themselves. Working alongside Dr. Dodd and Dr. Stacy since 2009, she is a true asset to the AWC team.
Meet Alyssa Moncrief
Alyssa was raised in Oneonta, Alabama where she spent her childhood showing paint horses. Moving to the Athens area in 2010, she started sharing her love for horses with others and continues to teach horseback riding lessons today. She finds such joy in any animal big or small. Alyssa now lives in Commerce with her husband, Andy, her yellow lab Ann and their newly adopted rescue little Jelly Bean. Alyssa enjoys anything outdoors or adventurous! Alyssa loves helping clients and has been a part of the AWC team since 2016.
Meet Julia Shaklee
Julia moved to Athens in 2015 from Missouri. She lives with her boyfriend Matt, their two dogs Rigby and Stevie Nicks, and a handsome gray tabby named Daryl. She is pursuing a degree in Biology from the University of North Georgia. When she’s not in the clinic loving on some cute pets, she’s spending her time outdoors. She enjoys backpacking, camping, bike riding or just on the river in the sunshine. Julia joined the AWC team in May of 2017.
Meet Jamie Whitmer
Jamie moved to Georgia from Southern California 4 years ago to pursue her dream of becoming a large animal veterinarian. While she loves working with small animals her ultimate goal is to work primarily with cattle. Jamie has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in Animal Science and is currently applying to vet school. Jamie currently lives here in Athens with her boyfriend Colin, together they have two cats named Zoey and Zephyr. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, at the lake, or hiking. Jamie has been with us since we opened our doors in 2015 and loves getting to know clients and their sweet companions!
